ONLINE BANKING - is safe and secure if you follow simple precautionary measures:

  • Do not allow your browser to save password information.
  • Always use a browser with 128-bit encryption (see system requirements below).
  • Memorize your password. Do not write it down.
  • Exit Internet Banking when finished. Do not leave a computer with a live session in process.

Privacy Security VeriSign Internet Explorer
VeriSign's Digital ID certificate protects your transactions over the Internet. To learn more about VeriSign, click the seal above. Get your 128-bit browser software for FREE!

System Requirements:

Your browser must have 128-bit encryption to connect to our interactive Internet Banking System.

Microsoft Internet Explorer:  We recommend version 6.0 or above with 128-bit encryption to connect to our Internet Banking System. Download the latest version of Internet Explorer from the Microsoft link above. If you have trouble connecting to our site click "Tools" and "About Internet Explorer" within your web browser to see if the version and cipher strength are up to date. The cipher strength must be 128 bit.

Other Internet Browsers: We recommend Microsoft Internet Explorer, but you may use a browser of your choice as long as it is equipped with 128-bit encryption to connect to our interactive web site.

Two Factor Authentication:
We have upgraded our Internet Banking security to one that requires more than just a user name and password to gain access, which is a one-factor system The new system uses two factors.

The first factor is one of recognition. Have we connected with your computer before? If not, the user is presented a challenge question in order to proceed. Several challenge questions are setup as part of the first-time login process.

The second factor is one of familiarity. Does the user recognize something unique about us? In order to answer that question we require the user to select a picture and type a brief phrase. Both appear each time the user logs into our Internet Banking System.

Pay attention to what you see. You play the most important role in security. If you don't see the correct picture or the passphrase is wrong, chances are you are being phished and have landed at a spoofed web site.

Call us at (435)865-2394 if you think something is wrong before divulging any personal or banking information. Whatever you do, do NOT provide your Debit Card number and PIN as an attempt to "To confirm your identity" regardless of the site you are on. Bank cards are useless for proving identity, but are valuable to thieves who want to drain your account from a foreign ATM. Click on this link to learn more about phishing.

Bill Pay News:

What is Bill Pay?
Bill Pay is a service that speeds up the monthly check-writing chore. Instead of writing and mailing checks one-by-one, bill-pay users click boxes and type amounts. SBSU and CheckFree do the rest. The system requires initial setup. After that, paying a bill is as easy as logging into our web site from anywhere in the world. Please read all of the information below to get the most from our bill pay system.

Bank to Bank Transfers: Don't use the bill pay system for bank to bank transfers or for paying State Bank loans. There's a better way, as follows:
    • Bank-to-Bank Transfers: Use our "External Transfer" method for moving money to or from other financial institutions.
      • Log into our Internet Banking site
      • Click the "Transfer" button
      • Click the little "External Transfer" button. Print the form, fill it out and mail it to us. We'll set you up with a very reliable and fast method for moving money between financial institutions.
      • Return to the "Transfer" screen to move your money (after we have set it up).
    • Loan Payments: Use the "Transfer" screen to pay your State Bank loans
      • Log into our Internet Banking site
      • Click "Transfer"
      • Your loan should be grouped with accounts under "Transfer To". Please contact us at (435)865-2394 if your loan does not appear on this screen.

  • Why State Bank and CheckFree?
CheckFree employs the risk model for paying bills. This means that funds are debited from the user's account at about the same time the bill is paid. The user keeps the float! Most other providers take the money first and then attempt to pay the bill. About 70% of transactions are handled by electronic methods. The remaining 30% is divided between laser drafts (a check that post to the user's account) and corporate checks (a check from Checkfree's account). SBSU cannot control the payment method chosen by CheckFree.

The user picks which vendors to pay and the amount. The system automatically defaults to the earliest date the payment will reach the vendor, which the user may accept or adjust to a later date. The best part is the CheckFree guarantee that the payment will arrive on time if scheduled to reach the vendor before the due date.

Overdraft Caution: Both Checkfree and SBSU Overdraft charges may apply. SBSU may return CheckFree's collection attempt as NSF, in which case you will receive both SBSU and CheckFree NSF fees. Checkfree charges $20 per NSF or overdraft item. SBSU charges $20.

Money Market Caution: Federal regulations restrict money market withdrawals to no more than six (6) per month, three of which may be by check. A $10 fee is charged for each excess withdrawal. These limits make Money Market accounts poor candidates to associate with bill pay.

Stop Payments: SBSU or CheckFree stop payment fees may apply depending upon the payment type. Checkfree charges $25 per stop. SBSU charges $15.

Enrolling in Bill Pay
    • Enrollment in SBSU Bill Pay is easy!
    • 60-day free trial period.
    • You must first be enrolled in our Internet Banking System (click the "Enroll Now" button at the top of this page).
    • After logging into our Internet Banking System, click the "Pay Bills" icon.
    • Fill out the enrollment forms completely and correctly with the required information.
    • Select the appropriate pricing plan.
      • Select Totally Free Bill Pay if you have E-statements with any checking account or have Emerald Elite (premium personal checking with a $1500 minimum balance requirement). Compare Accounts.
      • Select Basic Bill Pay ($5 per month for 15, then 50¢ each) for any account without the E-statement option. This includes the following:
        • Classic 55, Free Checking or Interest Checking without E-statements.
        • Any business or non-profit account without E-statements.
      • SBSU personnel will review enrollments for proper plan selection.

    • Click on the "Submit" button when you have finished.

Using The New Bill Pay Interface

    • There is generally a delay of one-banking day after enrollment before you may set up payees or pay bills.
    • Enter payee information into the bill pay interface when it appears, usually one banking day after enrollment.
      • Click on "Add a Bill" and follow the prompts.
    • Enter information completely and accurately.
      • Caution! Enter a complete address when required, including street and/or PO Box, city, state and ZIP. CheckFree keeps the address of some payees on file, but most addresses must be entered completely and accurately. Double check what you have entered before moving forward.
      • Do NOT assume that payments to a particular vendor or financial institution will be handled by electronic methods. The address information you enter must be accurate.
      • CheckFree prints instructions for crediting payments at the top of each laser draft. Be sure your account number with the vendor is entered correctly or that you provide sufficient "Check Memo" information to ensure that your payment is processed correctly.
      • CheckFree renames State Bank's Visa as "Certegy Card Services" on your list of payees (Certegy is the behind-the-scenes processor for SBSU). This is OK.
    • Laser drafts that post to your account like a check start with serial number 5000.

Working with Repeating Payments - Caution

    • You may add a repeating or automatic payment for any biller.
    • Click on "Manage my Bills" and select a biller. Set up the appropriate action from there.
    • Warning! To cancel a repeating payment you must do two things:
      • Update the biller (Manage my Bills) to remove any automatic payments.
      • Cancel any payment listed as "Pending". It is too late to stop a payment listed as "In Process" or "Processed".
    • Failure to do both will result in an unwanted payment.
    • CheckFree identifies repeating payments as pending up to 30 days before the payment due date.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about Internet Banking

How to View Checks: This is really easy. Log into our Internet Banking System with your Login ID and Password. Bring up some transaction history on a checking account by clicking on the blue balance figures. Transactions initiated by a check will be indicated with something like the following: "CHECK #249 View Image". To view an image of that check, click on the "View Image" hyperlink. Your check will be displayed momentarily.

How to Print Copies of Checks that you View: This may require some patience on your part because some browsers prevent "sensitive" data from being printed. Here's the solution if you experience problems:

  • Open a word processing program, such as Word, and start a new page.
  • Switch back to Internet Banking and call up the check image that you want to print.
  • Position your mouse pointer above the check and right click on the image.
  • You should see a short menu displayed when you right click with your mouse. Select "Copy".
  • Switch over to Word, click somewhere on the page and select "Edit" from the main menu.
    • Select "Paste Special"
    • Select the option that includes "Bitmap" or "paste image" in the wording.
    • The image should paste into Word.
  • Repeat the steps to get a the back of the check.
  • Print the page through Word.

Problems with new Bill Pay interface: When you try to enter the Pay Bills section you get transferred back to our Home Page. If you are using Apple's Safari browser you need to accept all cookies. Click on the Safari menu, select Preferences, select Security and tell it to Always accept cookies. If the bill pay screen appears garbled, you need to use the Safari browser. You're probably using Internet Explorer on an Apple Mac computer.

How to Sign Up for Internet Banking: First, click on the "Enroll Now" button that is positioned at the top of each of our web pages (look at the top of this page to see it). Second, click on the link that says "Enroll in Internet Banking". Finally, fill out the form completely and click the "submit" button at the bottom of the page. Allow one banking day for processing. The bank will send your password by E-mail or by snail-mail by the next banking day.

How to get a Copy of Older Checks (beyond 60 days): Our Internet Banking System stores about 60 days worth of history. To obtain copy of a check that is no longer listed contact your nearest branch. The bank archives check copies (both front and back) for at least seven years.

How to setup E-mail Alerts and Reminders: Log into our Internet Banking System and click on the icon, "Other Services". Once the page is displayed look just below the "Other Services" icon for "Q-Cards". Click on "Q-Cards it and fill in the appropriate boxes to kick out an E-mail whenever an account goes above or below a certain balance. Scroll to the bottom of the page to verify your E-mail address before clicking on the "Submit" button. Use "Other Reminders" to remind you by E-mail of important events, such as a birthday or anniversary. Set the date in "Other Reminders" using a MM/DD format for annual reminders.

ISP Vs. SBSU Tech Support: Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) is your gateway to the Internet. The connection through your ISP must be working in order you to connect to any web site, including ours at www.sbsu.com. If you experience connection problems while attempting to log into our Internet Banking site, please check a few other interactive web sites before calling our technical support at 865-2394. A problem connecting to other sites indicates that your ISP is having difficulty; SBSU tech support cannot help if this is the case. Note: Interactive sites contain log-in screens or embedded links that change frequently, such as Yahoo.

I Don't See all of my Accounts: Our system automatically allows you to see accounts assigned to your tax ID number (SSN or EIN) on which you are a sole or joint owner. If you do not see all of those account, please contact us at (435)865-2394 or E-mail us. We also have the ability to provide restricted access to other accounts on which you have signature authority but do not own, such as a business, organization, club or charity.

  • Access restrictions levels listed from most restrictive to least:
    • Deposit Only - ability to move money into the account, but balance information remains hidden.
    • View Only - See account balance and transaction details, but have no transaction ability.
    • View + Deposit - Same as above with the ability to deposit money into the account.
    • Full Rights - Ability to see transaction details and move money to and from the account.
